The headlamp must enable you to see things clearly (for short range) and not far. If the salesman is trying to sell you something that enables you to see far far away, that is not the headlamp you want. You need to see what are you holding or grabbing hold of in the dark, so... short sighted headlamp.

Here are some luxurious item that you might want to spend on. These are UNNECESSARY but if you have the $$$, why not?!

add on spikes from Universal Travels (RM99)
I do not have a picture of this but its like a rubber thingy that you wrap around your shoes and there are spikes at the bottom, fits on any shoes for more grip

heat pack (RM4 till RM8)
these are disposable heat packs that you stick on your shirt and in your shoes for additional warmth. lasts about 5 hours. also, there is one where you hold it on your hands.

glow stick (below RM5)
just for fun

more updates coming up soon!

~jesmond~Approximushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00735640067121793504noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6483853150648634908.post-732361313405970272010-06-07T11:11:00.005+08:002010-06-07T11:22:51.183+08:00Not only staminaA few of us when to Apek Hill last Saturday and I must say, that i had learned something from that trip.

The main thing, we have been worrying about is stamina but truth is, there are so many other things to worry about one of it is your knees. As we were descending, i felt a sharp pain on my knee and with wonders of google,

http://www.itendonitis.com/knee-tendonitis.html

Overuse of knees...

My advice, please remember to get knee support or any form of support that is required for any part of your bodies. (i mean ankle, elbow, wrist, whatever) =D

My knees are now wrapped in support even during work. Pray that i recover soon.

See you guys in ten days!

~jesmond~Approximushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00735640067121793504noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6483853150648634908.post-19267452879432727682010-06-06T13:32:00.000+08:002010-06-06T13:32:14.320+08:00Updates from Jesmond! The guys from Corezone gave us some tips:

Shoes/Boots:
Hard soles (tapak), water proof

Gloves:
Avoid using bulky snow gloves (comfy but not suitable for via ferrata).
Use warm and fitting gloves (kayak)

Jacket:
Water proof. Get a fleece too if possible. Do not underestimate the cold.

Water:
There is a water station at every 1km. Do not picture a water stall like your luxurious marathon runs. It's a natural water catchment, mini tangki thingy. Buy water purification tablets, do not challenge ur stomach during the climb.Mayzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04775003844519560477noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6483853150648634908.post-42898059389437238842010-06-03T14:40:00.003+08:002010-06-03T14:40:22.676+08:00More Updates!!FIRST AID KIT & MEDICATION
Subject: Low's Peak's Circuit

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is May Szin.
Please be informed that I have made a reservation for 26 pax on June 20, under Alan Lam of Skyland Adventure for Mountain Torq's Low's Peak's Circuit.

I was wondering if...

1) The renown "Kampung Adidas" shoes would be suitable to scale the circuit?
2) Or a hardier pair of hiking shoes would be more suitable?
3) What kind of gears are most suitable? Winter clothing or just slightly thicker jackets?

Please advice.
Would appreciate your suggestions/feedback.
From WIKIPEDIA:

Bukit Tabur is a hill located in Taman Melawati, Malaysia. It is also known locally as Bukit Hangus. The hill is very prominent and could be seen from the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2. The hill, which is less than 1000 meters, is a quartz ridge. Climbers enter the hiking trail via Kampung Klang Gates, 50 meters from the gates of the Klang Gates Dam, at the back of Taman Melawati for a quick 3-4 hours climb. The Gombak Forest Reserve and Klang Gates Dam are beside the hill. The peak offers spectacular view of the dam.

100% backpackers-styled accommodation

Located right smack in the city

Easily accessible to attractions like Filipino Market, Night Market, the Waterfront, shops, banks, etc

Suitable location for pick-up by agent for our rafting and climbing activities

Generally clean and cosy

Suggested rooms to book by Borneo Backpackers (first night deposit of RM 650 needed, if for 26 pax say yes):

1 Large Dorm (10 beds) - female

1 Medium Dorm (6 beds) - female

1 Large Dorm (10 beds) - male

Free airport transfers (for arrival only) can be arranged

RM 25 per pax, per night x 3 nights = RM 75.00 per pax

Cons

Common bathroom - limited available so there's definitely a need for waking up early to bath, to avoid 'congestion'

It's backpackers-styled, meaning... it cannot be compared to Tune Hotels (or any hotels for that matter) and the such in terms of room deco, etc

Some pictures for your viewing and judgement...
As organizers for this trip, we believe that it is our duty to make the trip easier, more fun and hassle free as you would not have to be worried about thinking or searching for a place to stay. Nonetheless, you are free to make your own decisions of where you would like to stay, for instance, friends / relatives place, your own preferred hotel, your own better rates hotel or even your more luxurious hotel as this is not a compulsory selection. You are free to decide on your own.

Our only request is that upon your selection, we are to meet at the rendezvous point at a designated time, which is Borneo Backpackers area, as the people from Skyland will be picking us up from there.

Finally, for those who are interested to accept this accommodation, please do email me at jesmond_cyk@hotmail.com and I shall have the rest of the arrangements made. Please do email me by 31st January 2010 as there would be neither email reminders nor persuasive messages to take this deal. Hence, I urge all of you to email me at the instant that you have made your decision.
Pros:

Affordable - still pretty much within the budget

Located right smack in the KK city - no need to spend unnecessarily on taxi fares

Nearer to airport - should have free airport transfer (that's what it's stated on the website)

Easy pick-up area for activities - preferred pick-up location by agents

Inclusive of continental breakfast

Cons:

Common bathroom - don't know how many's available... inquiring, awaiting feedback
